Possible bug related to MRG?

Hey, just wanted to know that if there is a merge tag in one of the articles to be merged and not in the other article which it is proposed to be merged with (and both articles are under the subscription subcategory) then will the bot send an alert? Just confirming to know that the it wasn't a bug. Talking with respect to: Locomotives of India and List of diesel locomotives of India, Article alert page link. Sorry for bothering again, though -- Field Marshal Aryan ( talk) 08:43, 21 May 2020 (UTC)

The bot only uses the "outgoing" merge direction, that is {{ merge to}} and ignores pages with {{ merge from}}. It's assumed that both would be used and that both should have the same banners. It's not the best logic, but it's a lot of extra work to get both pages, then decide if they are correctly pointing at each other (there can be multiple targets or sources), then merge the final entry. So I've not added anything more and because it "just works" most of the time. —   HELLKNOWZ   ▎ TALK 16:55, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
Noted! Thanks -- Field Marshal Aryan ( talk) 17:16, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

Old stale discussions in Article alerts

Hello. When there is an old split discussion (or merge discussion, or other "less formal" discussion), such as in Wikipedia:WikiProject_Formula_One#Article_alerts, the split discussion for 1994 Formula One World Championship on Talk:1994 Formula One World Championship from 2016 which clearly isn't going to have any more input (it would need to be a new discussion), does the discussion on the talk page need to be closed to remove it from Article alerts, or only the split template removed from the article? Thanks. A7V2 ( talk) 01:51, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi! The split template from the article needs to be removed since that is what places it in Category:All articles to be split. —   HELLKNOWZ   ▎ TALK 08:41, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
Thanks. I've done that now. A7V2 ( talk) 00:03, 23 July 2020 (UTC)

Another stop

Seems that AAlertBot didn't do a single edit today for some reason. I thought I should report that here in case something happened. Regards, Jovanmilic97 ( talk) 20:46, 18 August 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for reporting. Yeah, the bot crashed yesterday before finishing the run. @ Headbomb: must run it on his end since it didn't finish last time. —   HELLKNOWZ   ▎ TALK 21:08, 18 August 2020 (UTC)

Templates for discussion

It doesn't seem like any templates for discussion nominations are being added to the article alerts for any of the projects. Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums/Article alerts is where I first noticed it, but I also checked others like Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Article alerts. Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars Talk to me 16:46, 11 September 2020 (UTC)

@ Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars: Do you have a specific example of a TFD discussion that was missed? Headbomb { t · c · p · b} 15:11, 15 September 2020 (UTC)

@ Hellknowz:, after investigating, it seems like {{ The Sketches}} isn't reported at Wikipedia:WikiProject Pakistan/Article alerts. Likewise for {{ Big Four (tennis)}} at Wikipedia:WikiProject Tennis/Article alerts. We have a bug! Headbomb { t · c · p · b} 15:15, 15 September 2020 (UTC)

Thanks. I had noticed after I nominated {{ Third Strike (album)}} at TfD and it wasn't appearing on article alerts for albums, even though it had the project tag. Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars Talk to me 15:20, 15 September 2020 (UTC)

I'm guessing it's because of this param |bigbox={{#invoke:Noinclude|noinclude|text=yes}} and the template parsing fails. I've never seen this used before and my template parser is before module invokes even existed. —   HELLKNOWZ   ▎ TALK 16:51, 15 September 2020 (UTC)

Is there any way to fix this? Projects aren’t being notified when templates are being nominated for deletion, probably resulting in less productive dialog in some cases. Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars Talk to me 16:30, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
I can fix it, but I just don't have the time needed right now. I recently spent several full days fixing another bug (not yet done with it) and I just can't devote this much voluntary time to this. But I'm aware of it and I will try and fix it at some point. —   HELLKNOWZ   ▎ TALK 17:45, 17 January 2021 (UTC)

Spurious article split proposal(s)

I noticed the proposed article split of Tanks in the German Army by BrownHairedGirl, but could not find the proposal at the subject page or any discussion. I asked her and she could not recall making any such proposal. It's dated over a year ago. Several other proposed splits have no discussions on their respective talk pages. Bad link to RfD

In this edit, AAlertBot made a link formatted as [[Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2020 October 20#<1>|discussion]] - the link should have been [[Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2020 October 20#Thames foot tunnel|discussion]], so is the <1> a placeholder for the true link fragment? -- Redrose64 🌹 ( talk) 22:21, 21 October 2020 (UTC)

Good and Featured topic candidates out of date inquiry

Hello. Both Category:Wikipedia Good topic candidates and Category:Wikipedia featured topic candidates are out of date as there are no candidates in the Wikipedia:Featured topic candidates page. I was wondering why these categories are not in sync with the candidates page. Thanks! -- MrLinkinPark333 ( talk) 23:32, 16 November 2020 (UTC)

New versions of {{ merge}} and {{ split}}

The bot stopped

Per [1], AAlertBot stopped 3 days ago. Jovanmilic97 ( talk) 09:50, 30 November 2020 (UTC)

Bold entries

Why are some of the entries listed in boldface?-- Hildeoc ( talk) 15:53, 17 January 2021 (UTC)

The entries that are new since the last update to the page are bolded so it's easier to see daily changes. —   HELLKNOWZ   ▎ TALK 16:07, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
Ah, okay, thanks a lot!-- Hildeoc ( talk) 16:12, 17 January 2021 (UTC)

Crashed bot

The bot appears to have stopped mid-run today (it updated only one of the four alerts pages I watch), the status report says it's crashed, I think just after 10am. Thryduulf ( talk) 14:20, 18 March 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for notice. I reset it for a rerun today. It "lost" some edit summaries because it got logged out and failed to log back in, but kept processing. —   HELLKNOWZ   ▎ TALK 14:36, 19 March 2021 (UTC)

TALKPAGE

Any way we can get the bot to stop using Template:TALKPAGE (see history for Wikipedia:WikiProject Television/Article alerts for example) so my bot can stop fixing it? I think it all started when an editor improperly linked to the discussion here and now the bot continues to use that edit for linking. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 15:48, 28 March 2021 (UTC)

I set the bot to reget the data for the page, so it should hopefully refresh the page link on next run. —   HELLKNOWZ   ▎ TALK 16:14, 28 March 2021 (UTC)
