Administrator instructions

To report an error in current or upcoming Main Page content, please add it to the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quote of all or part of the text in question will help.
  • Please offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones: The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 12:03 on 12 April 2021), not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Do not use {{ edit fully-protected}}, which will not give you a faster response; it is unnecessary as this page is not protected and in fact causes problems if used here, as this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • Done? Once an error has been fixed, rotated off the Main Page or acknowledged not to be an error, the report will be removed from this page; please check the page's revision history for any discussion or action taken, as no archives are kept.
  • No chit-chat: Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere.
  • Please respect other editors. A real person wrote the blurb or hook to which you are suggesting a fix, or a real person noticed what they honestly believe is an issue with the blurb or hook that you wrote. Everyone is interested in creating the best Main Page possible; with the compressed time frame, there is sometimes more stress and more opportunities to step on toes. Please be civil to fellow users.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, consider first attempting to fix the problem there before reporting it here if necessary. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the bolded articles. In addition, upcoming content is typically only protected from editing 24 hours before its scheduled appearance; in most cases, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.

Errors with " In the news"

  • For the La Soufrière one, the main link is to the volcano and not the eruption itself. I would change it to: "The volcano La Soufrière (pictured) erupts in Saint Vincent, forcing the evacuation of around 20,000 people. Kokopelli7309 ( talk) 21:46, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
    • 2021 eruption of La Soufrière is a brand new article created about 10 hours ago. Should this be vetted at WP:ITN/C first? -- PFHLai ( talk) 00:26, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
      • I've linked in the article, it's good enough to be bold given that's the actual story. Step hen 06:19, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
  • "Rioting occurs in loyalist areas of Northern Ireland." This is misleading and creates the impression that rioting occurred only in loyalist areas, which is false. Nationalists/nationalist areas were involved as well. Ya hemos pasao ( talk) 05:13, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
    • Dropped off ITN. Mjroots ( talk) 09:37, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
  • Could someone with the ability to crop out the black border on the left side of File:Deuxième explosion de la Soufrière à Saint-Vincent.png? I tried to myself but the image was cascade-protected in case it was going to appear on ITN. Thanks. AllegedlyHuman ( talk) 06:04, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
There also appears to be a thin white line along the bottom. A fix to this would be appreciated, now that this image is on the Main Page. Thanks. AllegedlyHuman ( talk) 06:52, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
@ AllegedlyHuman:, you'll have to ask at the Admin's Noticeboard on Commons. Needs a Commons Admin to edit protected images. Mjroots ( talk) 09:37, 12 April 2021 (UTC)

Today's POTD

It's the Space Shuttle's 40th anniversary. But do we really want the first 13 words of Monday's POTD identical to Monday's Featured Article blurb? Art LaPella ( talk) 01:02, 10 April 2021 (UTC)

Great catch, Art. Perhaps we can have a new blurb like "The Space Shuttle Atlantis is seen here on launch pad 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center shortly before the launch of STS-129, a mission to the International Space Station, in 2009." or something like this. -- PFHLai ( talk) 04:26, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
If they're appearing at the same time on the main page, can we not assume that people will be able to see the blurb for the FA above the featured picture, and thus make the blurb for the picture solely about the anniversary/significance of the picture, not explaining the space shuttle? I agree with PHFLai as I think their suggestion does what I indicate. -bɜ:ʳkənhɪmez ( User/ say hi!) 05:02, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
The blurb could indeed be modified to help people understand what they can see in the image. However, the article to which it is linked is Space Shuttle and there will be complaints about verifiability if we mention aspects not mentioned in the linked article! Cwmhiraeth ( talk) 05:12, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
Probably not a good idea to link to that day's TFA again. Perhaps we can instead use Kennedy Space Center or Kennedy Space Center Launch Complex 39. -- PFHLai ( talk) 09:59, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
Is there a reason the blurb has to have a bolded article, and can't just explain what is going on in the picture (perhaps with a short sentence at the beginning describing the 40th anniversary)? Alternatively, or if not, I think the bolded article/primary should be the LC39A article and describe its use for the Space Shuttle program. -bɜ:ʳkənhɪmez ( User/ say hi!) 04:47, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
Yes, this is an encyclopedia so we're here to guide people to articles, not pictures. Commons is for "just pictures". The Rambling Man ( Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 08:48, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the suggestion. I considered emboldening the link to the LC39A article, but abandoned the idea because the article has been tagged for clean up and in need of updating. The link to the KSC article was emboldened instead. -- PFHLai ( talk) 11:12, 11 April 2021 (UTC)

Why are we celebrating the same thing on the Main Page twice? Is either FA or FP not enough by itself to commemorate this? AllegedlyHuman ( talk) 05:58, 10 April 2021 (UTC)

Yes, a different pic may be in order. Until a new POTD is chosen, we have to deal with the duplicated text on MainPage. -- PFHLai ( talk) 10:20, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
I have replaced the caption with a blurb on Kennedy Space Center, rather than the TFA Space Shuttle. I hope this is good enough for now. It would not be a bad idea to select a different and unrelated POTD. I am okay with showing a day shot on the TFA template and a night shot on POTD, too. -- PFHLai ( talk) 13:04, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
