The college sports teams are known as the Mariners. Until the NCAA ruling on the Native American mascot controversy, they were called the Pequots.[ citation needed] The college competes in NCAA Division III in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, sailing, and soccer for men, and basketball, cross country, sailing, soccer, softball, and volleyball for women. 
Mitchell College reports having 23 full-time faculty, 73 part-time faculty, and 57% of classes having between 10 and 19 students.  The college offers degrees in business, communication, education, environmental studies, family studies, liberal arts, psychology, public safety, and sports and fitness.
