Vernon D Boyd was an expedition machinist and a member of the West Base of the United States Antarctic Service (1939-41). He went on Expedition 2 and 3 with Admiral Byrd.
Boyd Glacier on Sulzberger Ice Shelf in Marie Byrd Land is named after Vernon D Boyd. Vernon was from the Uniontown area of Pennsylvania. After being a machinist in the Navy he was pulled into the Antarctic trips with that job assigned. He also took David Rembold, a family member on one of his expeditions.
