Timothy Coombs is an American crisis communications scholar who developed the Situational Crisis Communications Theory (SSCT). He is a full professor in the Department of Communication at Texas A&M University. In 2002 Coombs was the recipient of the Jackson, Jackson & Wagner Behavioral Science Prize from the Public Relations Society of America, in 2013 he received the Pathfinder Award from the Institute of Public Relations and in 2014 he was the winner of the Dean’s Distinguished Researcher Award in the College of Sciences at UCF.
