General Life Overview
An experienced spirits and hospitality professional, Tim Haughinberry founded Back Bar USA to bring hospitality and beverage companies together through partnerships to leverage marketing and exposure through innovative promotions and events. A Las Vegas resident of more than 30 years, Haughinberry is actively involved in the local community, most notably through support of LGBTQ initiatives and the William F. Harrah College of Hospitality at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Haughinberry’s public speaking credits include engagements at UNLV, NMSU, Berlin Bar Convent, Nightclub & Bar’s annual convention and other events, covering topics such as hospitality, spirits, entreprenuerlism, diversity and education.
Early Life & Career
Southern Wine and Spirits
A native of Southern California, Haughinberry moved to Las Vegas in 1987 to attend the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and started his career in hospitality as a busboy at The Mirage Hotel and Casino in 1989. Throughout his time at UNLV, Haughinberry held a variety of management roles in restaurants and bars before landing at Southern Wine and Spirits, now Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits, where he became one of the youngest managers in the company’s history. Eventually, he traded spirits for cigars when he accepted a position as Vice President of On-Premise Distribution  with Consolidated Cigar Corporation, now Altadis USA Premium Cigars.
Altadis USA Premium Cigars
Eventually, he traded spirits for cigars in 2000 when he accepted a position as Vice President of On-Premise Distribution  with Consolidated Cigar Corporation, now Altadis USA Premium Cigars. Haughinberry opened in 44 states  and managed roughly 1,000 accounts around the country. In 2001, he left Consolidated Cigar Corporation with an agreement to own the trademark ‘Montecristo’ for the creation of a rum.
While with Altadis, Haughinberry worked with Montecristo, a well-known cigar brand. Combining his experience and relationships with Southern and Altadis, he developed  an ultra-premium rum with the internationally-recognized Montecristo Rum brand. The first all-natural rum with no artificial flavors or colors, Montecristo received awards at several spirits competitions including a double gold medal at the 2003 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Through the success of Montecristo Rum, Haughinberry was featured in publications like Food and Wine Magazine  and Town and Country Magazine.
Gold Mine Tavern
Haughinberry continued to expand his professional reach in the industry when he bought Henderson’s oldest bar, Gold Mine Tavern, in 2006, which celebrated 50 years  of business in 2016. Soon after the purchase, Haughinberry acquired his Nevada gaming and liquor licenses and began focusing on creative marketing to promote the venue. In the following years, Haughinberry redefined  Gold Mine Tavern’s brand by modernizing the interior, bringing in live local music and expanding the patio area.
Back Bar USA
Haughinberry later began to recognize even more opportunity for an innovative spirits entrepreneur to capitalize on Nevada’s growing casino industry. In 2008, Haughinberry founded his own marketing agency, Back Bar USA, which caters to all major casino corporations in Las Vegas including MGM Resorts International, sbe, Landry’s Inc., Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants, TAO Group and more. Additionally, Back Bar USA works with major beverage suppliers including Diageo North America, Beam Suntory, Brown Forman, Moët Hennessy, Bacardi USA, Heineken USA, Pernod Ricard USA, MillerCoors, Chateau St. Michelle Wine Estates, Constellation Brands, Red Bull, Coca-Cola and PepsiCo. Haughinberry is ambitious and shows no signs of losing momentum as he continues to open new venues and lead hugely successful events with Back Bar USA including “For The Love Of Cocktails,” which brought internationally-renowned mixologists from around the world to Las Vegas for a comprehensive cocktail festival for five consecutive years .
Philanthropy & Personal Life
Haughinberry, a member of the LGBTQ community, is currently serving a three-year term as president  of The Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce Nevada (GLCCNV), which supports LGBTQ business owners through encouraging federal, state and local implementation of pro-business LGBTQ-inclusive policies. Haughinberry is also big supporter of Aid for Aids of Nevada (Afan). Furthermore, Haughinberry provides support to his alma mater, UNLV, by offering job opportunities within Back Bar USA to driven graduates, as well as a scholarship that was founded in 2014. Back Bar USA’s scholarship  offers $15,000 each year to students in UNLV’s Honors College studying in the field of hospitality. With recent speaking engagements at Nightclub & Bar , Bar Convent Brooklyn  and UNLV’s William F. Harrah College of Hospitality, Haughinberry regularly seeks out new educational opportunities to speak to students, individuals and businesses working in the hospitality industry.
