Raj Deepak Shetty commonly known as Deepak Shetty is an Indian actor who works in Sandalwood (Kannada) and Tollywood (Telugu) films and is well-known for being a stylish villain and playing antagonist roles. He made his debut on the silver screen with Shivrajkumar starrer Srikanta (2017) and went to act in popular films which include Panchatantra, Life Jothe Ondh Selfie and Asathoma Sadgamaya.[1]

Early Life[edit]

Deepak was born to Prem Shetty and Sarala Prem Shetty in the coastal city of Mangalore, Karnataka. He completed his schooling from Milagres Pre-University and graduated from St. Aloysius College, Mangalore. From his school days, Deepak showed curiosity and interest in plays being held for various events and started his career acting in those plays.

During his college days, he continued acting in plays and local dramas after which he decided to leave his native place to explore the world of cinema and start his career as an actor. He faced a lot of struggles in finding a good role and even worked in a call centre to make ends meet while he got small roles.

After trial and failures, in the year 2006, Deepak landed a small role in a serial called Kadambari which aired on Udaya TV. After that, he continued his search for roles and landed a lead role in a Bande Baruttade Kaala. Along with this, he starred in few other television soaps like Preethi Illada Mele for Etv Kannada, Nigooda Raatri for Suvarna plus, Muthina Thene on Udaya TV and Niharika for Suvarna Plus. However, cinema seemed like a distant shot to him at the time.

After getting good reviews from serials, he prepared his portfolio and looked for opportunities in Sandalwood, but faced disappointment. He played a small role in Shivadwaj’s Neene Neene in 2008. But unfortunately, it did not create a strong base in the industry. After a few rejections and some disheartening moments, Deepak moved to Dubai and started working with Emirates Airlines.

Even though he faced a few failures on the way, his passion for cinema and love for acting kept him going. He never gave up on his passion and continued his search for roles. This got him another opportunity in 2014. He was offered the role of the father of the lead actor in Kannada serial Love Lavike which aired on Zee Kannada.

His brilliant portrayal of the Father’s role grabbed the attention of well-known Sandalwood director Nanda Kishore. Recognizing Deepak’s potential, he offered him the role of the antagonist in his movie Tiger in 2017. This turned out to the tipping point in Deepak’s career. He used his opportunity to the best of his ability and become famed as Sandalwood’s stylish villain. Following this, he went on to land a role as Satyamurthy in the Shivarajkuma-starrer 2017 hit Srikanta. The film went on to make 5 crores in the first weekend.

Deepak has also worked with and walked the ramp for designers Anu Nagappa, Prasad Bidapa and Tiziano.

Deepak will be starring in Mungaru Male fame Yogaraj Bhat’s Panchatantra, a kannada romantic drama film which is due to be released in 2019.
