Peter Cooper (born 1951) is a New Zealand-born billionaire businessman and philanthropist. He is the Founder & Executive Chairman of 'Cooper and Company'. Peter owns The Landing an exclusive resort in the Bay of Islands New Zealand. He is in part with Auckland's BritoMart Project after his success with Southlake Town Square
Peter Cooper grew up in Kaitaia,New Zealand where he was Head Boy of Kaitaia College. Peter and his parents moved to Kansas City,USA. He studied there a high school of which where at the age of 17, he was awarded an American Field Scholarship to the United States He returned to Auckland where he studied law, he specialized in commercial and property law. He practiced law for 11 years, and was made partner at Auckland law firm Russell McVeagh. When Peter was 38, and following a economic crash, he moved to again in the United States with his wife Sue and their five children. Whilst in the USA he started the realtor Cooper and Stebbins company,and built Southlake, Texas' town square. In 1999, Peter bought a 300ha sheep and beef farm to convert in a exclusive resort, The Landing. In 2018 Former U.S. President Barack Obama and Former NZ Prime Minister John Key spent some time at The Landing when they were playing golf at The Kuari Cliffs
Throughout the years Peter has been the executive director of the listed beer company Lion, the CEO of LD Nathan & Co. and Joint Managing Director of Mace Development Corporation.
In 2013, Peter was made a Companion of the NZ Order of Merit in the Queen's New Year Honours list.
