Muaaz Shakeel (born June 24, 1997) is an American YouTuber, influencer, and media personality known professionally as Muaaz. He currently boasts over 22 million views on his YouTube channel since it's creation in 2008.
Shakeel was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and went on to attend the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He graduated in May 2019 receiving a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Information Systems.
Shakeel joined YouTube on June 15, 2008. He originally created videos in the niche market of comedy due to inspiration from the comedic duo Smosh. Later he moved to creating content focused on gaming and the growing space of esports. After multiple failed attempts at growing a gaming-related following, Shakeel took a hiatus from the YouTube platform until August 2015. Prior to Shakeel starting college, he gave YouTube content creation one last attempt but focused on creating content he knew he was good at, tutorials. According to a 2017 article done by The Huffington Post, within two years of resuming content creation, Shakeel had seen growth in the tens of thousands. Through creating tutorials and building his influence over the years, he was able to successfully incorporate gaming into his tech-oriented content. Through a 2019 interview with TubeBuddy, Shakeel proudly boasts that the content he currently creates is centered around the intersection of both gaming and technology. Shakeel successfully grew a YouTube audience by helping others build their own influence through the strategic use of online video and social media.
