Muaaz Shakeel (born June 24, 1997)[1] is an American YouTuber, influencer, and media personality known professionally as Muaaz. He currently boasts over 22 million views on his YouTube channel since it's creation in 2008.[2]

Early Life[edit]

Shakeel was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin[3] and went on to attend the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He graduated in May 2019[4] receiving a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Information Systems.[5]

Shakeel joined YouTube on June 15, 2008.[2] He originally created videos in the niche market of comedy due to inspiration from the comedic duo Smosh.[6] Later he moved to creating content focused on gaming and the growing space of esports. After multiple failed attempts at growing a gaming-related following, Shakeel took a hiatus from the YouTube platform until August 2015.[7] Prior to Shakeel starting college, he gave YouTube content creation one last attempt but focused on creating content he knew he was good at, tutorials.[8] According to a 2017 article done by The Huffington Post, within two years of resuming content creation, Shakeel had seen growth in the tens of thousands.[9] Through creating tutorials and building his influence over the years, he was able to successfully incorporate gaming into his tech-oriented content.[10] Through a 2019 interview with TubeBuddy, Shakeel proudly boasts that the content he currently creates is centered around the intersection of both gaming and technology.[11] Shakeel successfully grew a YouTube audience by helping others build their own influence through the strategic use of online video and social media.[12]

In July 2017, Shakeel was recognized by The Huffington Post as one of the few digital creators "qualified to discuss rapid strategic growth in the current YouTube climate."[9]

In May 2019, Shakeel announced a partnership he long-awaited with G FUEL.[13]
