The son of a Greek immigrant and a Mennonite  Malakos was born and raised in Peterborough, Ontario in his parents restaurants. He moved to New York city for school where he met his now spouse Robert German 
Return to Canada
Malakos and German returned to Canada initially settling in Montreal where Malakos became involved in the Rosemont—La Petite-Patrie riding association and served two terms as the LGBT commission co-president. Eventually they moved to a small farm near Glen Robertson, Ontario where they now live
