James Daniel Marrs Ritchey (born 21 April 1989)[2] is a Canadian[3], actor[4], director[1], cinematographer[5], television host[6], script writer[7], stand-up comedian[8], and YouTube vlogger[9], best known as the host of television series Glorious North.

Personal life[edit]

Ritchey has one sibling, younger[10]. He graduated from Prince George Secondary School in 2007[11]. He has since studied New Media[12] at the University of Lethbridge[13], and English[14] at Athabasca University[15]. Ritchey also attended the Justice Institute of British Columbia[16], and Careerstep[17]. He has applied twice to the Canadian Armed Forces[18], but has never served[19].

Online[edit]

Online Ritchey is most notably known for his application to season 5 of Big Brother Canada. While his application was declined[20], his vlog about applying received much attention[21], including over 220,000 views[22], making it his most watched YouTube video at the time.

James has deleted many of the videos from his channel[23]. In late 2016 he deleted most of the videos from his YouTube channel[24], notably including "57. Current Chart - Y2016M7D24"[25], the source of the Heartbroken Cowboy meme.[26] The Heartbroken Cowboy meme entry on Know Your Meme received over 125,000 views[27] within the first 9 months[28], and its template is available on most meme generators.[29]

Ritchey's Deviant profile[30] has received over 180,000 views[31], and his artwork "March Whiteout" notably received over 20,000 views in it's first month on DeviantArt[32].

On 10 December 2018, Christin Löhner announced the Linux Counter project would end, citing lack of time and user interest[33]. In 2019 James launched Lius as a replacement.[34]

Film Career[edit]

While attending the University of Lethbridge, Ritchey took acting classes as part of his major in New Media[35]. His first television role was as an extra in TheKiddiePreneurs[36]; he played a parent[37]. In 2017, he continued his entrance into television, as the host of television series Glorious North[6]. As his first movie role, he starred as John Cantel[38], in the film Lost In Capanira[39]. As of January 9th 2018, he is ranked 154,045 on the IMDB StarMeter[40][i].
